I have been studying issues relating to the public use of microdata
in the field of official statistics. The widespread use of
microeconometrics entails an active demand for microdata, including
in Japan. Nevertheless, confidentiality clearly takes priority
when disseminating microdata. Only when the risk of breaching privacy
is sufficiently low can microdata be provided. My current research
relates to the assessment of these risks. This topic is considered
as a kind of statistical estimation, involving discrete probability
models. I have proposed a family of discrete distributions and have
investigated the instances of this family. These models can be applied
to contexts other than risk assessment; the family suggests a new approach
to count-data modeling.
